“There will not be a ‘Glee’ spinoff,” Fox president Kevin Reilly told the media on Sunday at the Television Critics Association’s winter confab in Pasadena, California.
At one point, there had been talk that graduating seniors Rachel (Lea Michele), Kurt (Chris Colfer), and Finn (Cory Monteith) would be featured in a spinoff about their lives in New York post-high school.
Reilly noted “those characters will graduate,” but wouldn’t elaborate on their futures. He only offered that what happens toward the end of this season will be an “interesting idea that I think is going to give us something cool to dig into for next season.”
He did, however, confirm that Michele would be returning to the series, adding, “We’d want to see them all back,” but mentioned there were “contractual” questions for the other stars.
Playing his cards close to the vest, Reilly said that what happens to the characters will be “a good thing for the show.”
Perhaps their post-high school lives will be weaved within next season’s storylines?
Shortly before there was talk of a spinoff, “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy told the Hollywood Reporter that “more characters are leaving than are staying” come graduation day.
